On Sundays I'm Eastbound and Down

Kenny Powers is a God or at least he is in his own mind, this is what makes Eastbound and Down the best new show of the season. Now for most people who like TV we know the start of the year brings back those shows that are a little less successful than the ones that closed the year, or ones that are simply midseason replacements. This year is a little different as the writer’s strike aftermath has pushed back some of the best shows on TV, and with that we get Eastbound and Down.
Now HBO Sunday nights are known for the mix of a strong one hour drama and a few half hour comedies. This year to take the place of Entourage we got Kenny Powers, a down and out baseball player who is simply a fat John Rocker with a drug problem. Kenny has been dropped by the majors for steroid use and is forced to live with his brother and his family. Kenny also has to become a gym teacher to make the cash, which does have it’s benefits as Kenny can now try to bang his ex-girlfriend who is engaged to the principle.

Now as funny as the show’s basis might be Kenny makes it all worth while with his Powerisms like” If at first you don’t succeed, then you suck”, or a favorite of mine “ I want to finger you, with my penis”. The dude just says and does things that are the most of the wall things ever, he hired a dude to be his assistant got drunk totaled dudes car then put him in the driver seat. That’s just classic powers, he’ll hide a jet ski from his bother than take a herp infested whore on a ride on it a hour later.
Kenny at school is the best though as he has no filter as he openly curses and ridicule students. The principle is is a twerp who has to stand by as Kenny makes the kids play gladiator for his amusement. Kenny is also using the school to help sell his old Kenny Powers merchandise in the parking lot.

Kenny’s real goal in the show other than banging his ex, is to get back to the majors. The problem is Kenny can’t pitch for shit anymore I’m talking he’s dribbling it up to the mound. So what will our hero do about it back on the roids of course what could be more American that, as we all know it’s better to cheat than be a loser. Now my Sunday nights are pretty important, but from now on I will always make room for the new American Hero Kenny Powers. Oh and Will Ferrell makes guest appearances.
